VIEW OUT OF THE WINDOW FROM  HAWAII, USA

Aloha Nata, Lena N., Lena S., Sasha, Oksana, Yura, Masha, Irina, Anya,
Zhenya, Olya and Valentina Saenko -

We found your letter very interesting. Most of these 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students could not comprehend such low temperatures. When it reaches 15 degrees C or around 60 degrees F. we are already feeling the cold and bundle up in blankets. Here are some responses from the students. The students also found it interesting trying to pronounce your names. They
are different from most of the names here. (I have a niece named Lena.) We
hope you enjoy trying to pronounce our names. You might find it
interesting to try and guess our nationalities. We have students who are
of these racial backgrounds, although we are all Americans - Japanese,
Chinese, Vietnamese, Hawaiian and Caucasian.
Tawni and Kaile - The sky is a beautiful blue with lush greenery
surrounding us. The calls of birds and the smell of the sea air fill our heads. We see flowers 5 feet away from us. That is what is out our window.
Dustin, Anthony and Michael - When we look out the window we see lush vegetation and pure blue skies with fluffy white clouds. We see the
awesome mountains with the sun shining through its peaks. When we walk on the beach which is about a half mile away from our school, we can hear the roar of the waves and feel the warm sea breeze.
Kayla and Cheyna - The weather is very warm here in Hawaii. We have no snow on Oahu. (There is snow on the top of  Mauna Kea on the island of Hawaii.) We have warm weather throughout the year. We have lots of green plants and we have very good surf.  What does it feel like with no beach to go to for swimming and surfing? How cold does it get and how warm does it get there?
Talei, Brittany and Hillary Ann - In Hawaii, there are lots of greenery and the weather is cold from 7:00 PM to 8:00 AM ( about 60 degrees F.) and warm during the rest of the day. It is now about 72 degrees F.
Carter - If I were at the beach, I would see the sun shining brightly on the beach of our glistening Kailua Bay. I could watch the sparkling fish
swimming.
Lana - Outside it is really hot. I can hear the mynah birds, doves and sparrows tweeting noisily in the tropical trees. Right now it is 9:45 AM
and the temperature is 72 degrees F. inside. The windows and doors are all
open.
Karla - In Hawaii you can walk down the road and swim at a beautiful beach without freezing to death. It is so hot your feet are getting burned when you are walking on the sand.
Lindsey - The beach sands falls between your toes like water and the sun is scorching hot on your back. At the beach you will find thousands of little holes in the silky sand from little sand crabs trying to hide from
the tremendous heat.
Kristina - Kailua Beach has beautiful bleached white sand which is hot from the sun.
Stephen - In the morning it is chilly and in the afternoon it is warm. At
night it is cold. Right now it is 72 degrees F.
Amelia - When I look outside, I can see the warm sun shining down on the sidewalk and light bouncing off the leaves causing them to glow. The light shines through the trees. It hits the ground in patches over the dewy
grass. Then the recess bell rings and kids come running out of their
classrooms, to play kickball or tag.
Beth - Now the birds are gleefully singing their beautiful songs in the
beautiful weather. While singing in the trees, a small breeze rustles the
leaves.
Rebecca - Outside I see big beautiful, green mountains. They are very long and as tall as the sky.
Vahid - Right now, the beaches have lots of waves and the water is blue. The water is very deep and there are little shells on the beaches.
Josh - When I look outside I see a beautiful paradise. I see flowers
hiding in a bed of green leaves.
Malina - I love walking on the beach with sand underneath my feet and listening to the sound of the waves. The sun shines on me with rolling
beautiful cool waves breaking at my feet.
Dion - Right now the trees are green and healthy with long branches. They have many leaves and are very big.
Deborah - I can hear the little gray feathered birds sing beautiful songs. The birds flying through the trees making small rustling noises. How good it feels!
Natasha - At the beach, I can see soft yellow sand. The water always
gently moving as the sun shines.
Tatiana - When I look at the beach, I see blue crystal water and white
sand seething through my toes. The sun feels good on my back. It relaxes
me when I think of the ocean.
